Women's Counselling

A space that understands the particular pressures of being a woman, a mother, a daughter, and a friend in the Hills.

Safe Refuge works with women only. This is a deliberate choice, not a marketing angle. There are things that are easier to say, and sometimes things that can only be said, in a room where the other person has walked a version of the same path.

Being a woman in 2026 means being asked to be a dozen different kinds of excellent at once: a present mother, a productive worker, a calm partner, a dutiful daughter, a loyal friend, a steady parishioner, a body that has recovered, a mind that has not slipped. The gap between the performance and the reality is where a lot of women quietly break.

This page exists for the things that do not fit neatly into the other service categories. Identity shifts in mid-life. The slow dimming of a marriage. The friendship that ended without warning. The aging parent. The adult child who will not speak to you. The vague but insistent sense that you are not living your own life.

Whatever has brought you here, you do not need to tidy it up before you arrive.

Our Approach

Why Safe Refuge

Much of what we would call “women’s issues” is actually the accumulation of a lifetime of putting other people first. Therapy that works is therapy that gives you permission to take yourself seriously, maybe for the first time.

Safe Refuge is a women-only practice in a town where it is genuinely hard to find one. If you have tried counselling before and it did not quite land, it may be worth trying again in a space designed around you.
